 Facebook crushes its Competitors

Facebook is huge and also crushing its competitors as it emerges to be the world's favorite online social networking site.
The chart below shows a huge disparity between Facebook and other social networking sites in terms of unique visits. Facebook is the only obvious site that is experiencing an upward trending growth while others clustered at the bottom of the chart. LinkedIn and Twitter also appear to be growing at a steady pace but definitely in a different league from Facebook.
Regardless, both Twitter and LinkedIn serve different needs and aren’t much of threats to Facebook (yet).Looking at this direction, the chart has taught us a simple business lesson:" To win, we have to differentiate from our competitors'. Facebook is a successful product differentiation example.

The current state of facebook

o current state of the company:

The current state of social networking has reached overwhelming proportions. Recently, Facebook has announce end that there are more than 2000 Employees work in the Facebook company, and Over 500 million active , which means one out of every 15 people on the planet is on the site. We all know that Facebook is the big winner in the social networks with number of users surpassing any other social media. Believe me Facebook is the third in the world after China and India.

o Products:

Facebook, the product, is made up of core site functions and applications. Fundamental features to the experience on Facebook are a person’s Home page and Profile. The Home page includes News Feed, a personalized feed of his or her friends they can always connect together and see the new updates. The Profile displays information about the individual he or she has chosen to share, including interests, education and work background, contact information, Photos, Events, Videos, Groups, and Pages – that let people connect and share in rich and engaging ways. Additionally, people can communicate with one another through Chat, personal messages, Wall posts, Pokes, or Status Updates. There are over half a million applications on Facebook. Over a million local businesses have active Pages on Facebook. some people live in Facebook, enjoying the “walled garden” environment where they can send messages, update their status, comment on other people’s status, announce events, share photos, tag them, give gifts, chat, use custom applications, and play games — all in this same environment, without using other services. Not only is Facebook becoming an aggregator of web services, it is also becoming the go-to location for clubs, groups, even churches — where people can share publicly or privately their taste, ideas, opinions and interests.  Facebook has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. It can reunite lost family members and friends. One such reunion was between John Watson and the daughter he had been searching for 20 years. They met after Watson found her Facebook profile. Another father-daughter reunion was between Tony McNaughton and Frances Simpson who had not seen each other for nearly 48 years. Some studies
Have named Facebook as a source of problems in relationships. Several news stories have suggested that using Facebook causes divorce and infidelity, but the claims have been questioned and refuted by other commentators

o Technology:
Facebook is one of the most-trafficked sites in the world and has had to build infrastructure to support this rapid growth. The company is the largest user in the world of me cached, an open source caching system, and has one of the largest My SQL database clusters anywhere. The site is largely written in PHP though the engineering team developed a way to programmatically transform PHP source code into C++ to gain performance benefits. Facebook relies heavily on open source software and releases large pieces of its own software infrastructure as open source.
